Surrounded by the Enemy
In the wake of active shootings, road rage, natural disasters, and so much more going on in the world today, some of us tend to get discouraged. We need to know that we are not alone. We must still have love and peace in our hearts.
Some people consider an enemy to be a human being wreaking havoc in our lives. Others understand the enemy to be the consequences of an ungodly act. We must be mindful of the real enemy of our souls.
John 10:10 tells us that the thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. We never like to talk about the enemy, but he is real. Peter 5:8 tells us to be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. The enemy is not the person that you see before you. It goes so much deeper than that. The enemy uses people to bring hurt, harm and danger to anybody that he can overtake.
David was a mighty man battle. He was a man after God’s own heart, yet he found himself running from his own son Absalom. In Psalm 3, David cries out to God.
1 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.
2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
3 But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
4 I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.
6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
8 Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
In these troubling times, rest assured that God sees your pain and he knows what you are going through. Do not be afraid because the Lord is with you. He said that he would never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrew 3:5).
Keep your focus on the promise of the Lord. You will get through troubling times. Notice in verse 4 David cried out to the Lord with his voice and the Lord heard his cry. The peace of God sustained him. He was able to lay down and sleep. He said that he would not be afraid. Put your trust in the God. The battle does not belong to you, it belongs to the Lord. So be encouraged.
